LO surveys work environment of temporary personnel
Occupational health and safety for those in temporary employment is often neglected. LO will therefore carry out a survey concerning the work environment of temporary / contracted staff, including subcontracted personnel. The survey will be conducted at small and medium-sized workplaces during the autumn of 2013 and the spring of 2014 by the regional safety representatives of LO member unions. The outcome will be presented in a report to be published in July 2014.
Obviously I hope that this survey will show that there are no differences between a company's permanent staff and temporary personnel as regards work environment, LO Negotiating Secretary Torbjörn Johansson comments. However, quite many reports that we have received show that the safety for temporary / contracted and subcontracted personnel is neglected.
No one should be exposed to hazardous work, regardless of the form of employment. What is needed is increased awareness of the fact that the Work Environment Act and regulations apply to all workers.
More than two employers can often be involved in situations when employees are hired / hired out or subcontracted. This creates uncertainty regarding how the shared responsibility for work environment and the coordination of work environment measures are to be handled in these situations, Torbjörn Johansson states.
The overall objective of LO's and LO unions' targeted measures is to ensure that preventive work environment activities are applied to temporary / contracted workers. To address any problems that may appear from the survey, LO and LO unions will outline proposals for appropriate measures.
